What We Allow Ourselves to Want

Sun in Scorpio · October 23–November 21, 2026

By late October, the garden has begun to reveal its structure. Leaves gather beneath the trees. Seed heads darken. What has ripened returns to the ground, becoming nourishment for a season we cannot yet see.

As the Sun enters Scorpio, we might turn a similar attention toward our inner lives. Beneath our habits and obligations, what still has life in it? What are we holding close? What have we wanted for so long that we have stopped allowing ourselves to name it?

Scorpio is fixed water: feeling with persistence, memory, and depth. In astrological symbolism, it speaks to intimacy, desire, shared resources, and the changes that ask something of us. Its territory includes the experiences we carry privately—the love we fear losing, the grief that resurfaces unexpectedly, the longing that survives our sensible explanations.

The courage to desire

Wanting makes us vulnerable. To admit that something matters is to acknowledge that its absence could hurt.

We learn ways to protect ourselves. We become practical about an ambition before giving it a chance. We wait for someone else to reveal their feelings. We tell ourselves we are content with an arrangement that has begun to leave us lonely.

This season offers room to examine those protections with tenderness. Some arose from experiences that taught us to be careful. We can respect what they helped us survive while asking whether they still serve the life we want.

Desire deserves an honest hearing. Naming it gives us something we can consider, question, and choose how to act upon.

What might become possible if I could admit what matters to me?

Trust and the terms of closeness

Scorpio also brings us to the places where our lives become intertwined: affection, money, responsibility, sex, care.

Here, trust takes practical form. It lives in agreements we understand, boundaries we can speak, and the freedom to ask a difficult question without being punished for asking.

Notice where you feel able to be candid. Where do you find yourself guessing, testing, or keeping score? Jealousy or resentment may contain information about a fear, an unmet need, or an agreement that needs attention. Give yourself time to understand the feeling before deciding what it means about another person.

Closeness grows through what we are willing to make clear.

A season of returning

The Sun enters a part of the sky already occupied by Mercury and Venus. Their presence gives this Scorpio season a particular emphasis: the relationship between what we want, what we value, and what we are willing to say.

Mercury remains in Scorpio throughout the season, part of an extended stay from September 30 through December 6. Its retrograde runs from October 24 to November 13, returning us symbolically to questions that deserve another hearing. A conversation may feel unfinished. An explanation we once accepted may no longer account for what we know.

Give yourself permission to ask again. Check the details of shared plans and responsibilities. When a familiar fear supplies an answer before someone has spoken, leave room to hear what they actually mean. Around Mercury’s conjunction with the Sun on November 4, you might revisit your notes or notice how your understanding of an old question has changed.

Venus is also retrograde in Scorpio as the season opens. Its conjunction with the Sun on October 23 brings the symbolism of desire and value close to the heart of this solar passage. What kind of affection feels sustaining? What have we been willing to exchange for closeness, approval, or security?

Venus returns to Libra on October 25, carrying those questions into the ways we negotiate and relate. It spends the remainder of Scorpio season in Libra, turning direct there on November 13—the same day Mercury turns direct in Scorpio. Let that shared turning point be an invitation to notice what has become clearer, while allowing decisions to develop at a human pace.

The Shape of Change

Autumn makes change visible, but our own changes often arrive unevenly. We may recognize an ending before feeling ready for it. We may feel relief and sorrow about the same decision.

There is room for that complexity.

Consider one attachment that deserves your attention. It might be an object, a role, a promise, or an expectation of how your life was supposed to unfold. What does it give you now? What does maintaining it require?

Some things will ask for renewed devotion. Others may need a different place in your life. Let your answer develop through attention rather than urgency.

As the Sun moves through Scorpio, give something meaningful the dignity of your full attention: a conversation, a creative longing, a grief, a commitment you still choose.

There is life beneath the surface. Begin by listening.

What am I ready to acknowledge—and what would caring for that truth look like?
